A Perfect Circle is done. Tool is still fine; 10,000 Days was everything I hoped it would be.

But Nine Inch Nails, from With Teeth (or a-with-a-teeth-a, if you want to be smart about it) to the recent release of The Slip (this includes Year Zero, but I haven't yet heard Ghosts I-IV), just feels soft to me. The edge that made me fall in love with ( Read more... )

Yeah, you're probably right about all of it. I mean, I'm not that depressed anymore either, but I'd still like the same music. =P I probably should hear Ghosts at some point, but I don't want to pay for it... I could always get the free shortened version, I guess.
And I did enjoy WT when it came out. I went to see NIN on that tour and had a great time - it was probably one of the best shows I've ever been to. But the more I've listened to it, the less it's meant to me. I'm not entirely sure why. I think I'm going to put it on while I'm writing today and see if I can still enjoy it to the extent that I did when it came out in spring 2005. (Granted, in May 2005, I liked softer music than I do now - it was one of my regressive stages.)
But I definitely agree with you about the amount of music in such a small amount of time - it is incredibly impressive, and I definitely still respect Trent for that.

The new NIN album is somewhat of a joke. 10 tracks? More like 3 tracks of new material. 1&2 are basically one track, 7 8 and 9 are basically one long track... he reused a TON of material from W_T (Discipline? More like "ONLY v2" and one of the tracks on the album is a reworking of an Error song (Atticus Ross has been working with trent for a few albums and was the driving force behind the Error band.) It was... a disappointment.

Ah well...

That said, the Saul Williams album was REALLY great. Trent should make more albums with him. Have you heard that? It's like... slam poetry set to industrial beats. (and yes, I disappeared off the internets for a while.)
