Hmm

It certainly has been a while... I doubt I'll ever tire of saying that. Much has happened in the past year, and it's great to come back and find out that there are still those gracious folks who have yet to remove me from their friends list =). We've 14 more school days left, and then finals week; I reckon we shall have at least that many midterms ( Read more... )

I realised that I've changed quite a bit in the last year; I imagine others have found change in their habits and beliefs as well.
This is common when you move away from home and into new situations.

I took up smoking again, but only for a while
::shudders:: Eew... I hope that means you've stopped? Tobacco smoke is rather nasty stuff: it smells bad, many people around you have allergies to it, it'll ruin your lungs, really increase your chance of cancer, make your teeth gross, aaaaaaand it's highly addictive.

It wasn't until my brother called me a month after my 18th birthday that I realised how much I had spent.
Can you check your account balance online? That often helps keep track of expenditures. A good rule of thumb that works for me is to try not to spend (on personal stuff like entertainment---the money's supposed to be used for school stuff like books) more than I earn. It's not feasible to do completely, but it does cut down on spending.

The high school techniques work for a three to five page essay, but stretching the same ( ... )

False. That is not all, Alfred. Think about what you're doing, and why you're doing it. You have a tendency to be too easily influenced by others. While I'm not arguing against taking the advice of friends, I'm saying that you should consider that advice given and why it's being given, as well as what level of personal judgment (for its effects on you, which others might not judge well) and responsibility (for consequences of which you may or may not have been warned) the advisor expects of you. Remember--friends giving advice expect you to make decisions, not blindly follow it.

Psychology's not a bad field, though if you are into it, and especially since you're at UCSD, you might consider Cognitive Science. =) I'm going for a major in that myself, after realizing I was more interested in that than in Computer Science.

Hi Alfred!

I turned 18 and discovered the wonders of plastic.
For a minute, this confused me, and I thought of one of those industry films: "How could we live without -- PLASTIC?" (And then I got it.)

Ditto to everything Mindy said. It's good to hear you're finding stuff you're interested in studying! Good luck with the next few weeks!
