The next time somebody bitches to me about liberal activist judges I'm going to punch them in the fucking face...probably not but I'll have to think twice about it. Why dont we just get it over with and have every tattooed at birth with their fucking corporate sponsor.

Government power is at the end of a gun. Government tells you how much taxes you must pay to keep them from taking your house or car or anything you ever earned. If you provide them false or inaccurate information, they can even jail you, and there's the end of that gun if you resist being jailed. Corporations can do none of this. Government is the biggest and most powerful and invasive corporation, yet you continue to blithely give it a free pass.

I can choose which corporations to buy products from, and to give my money to. No corporation can tell me what I can or can't say to other people, or how much money I can spend printing or broadcasting my message. Corporations are not your problem.

I think we are approaching this from different ideological points of view and this is probably not worthy us trying to discuss. This is just going to be a fundamental issue where we disagree. I will say that I find it odd that you would say that I give government a free pass. I almost never have anything positive to say about out government.

Too simple.. tricstmr January 22 2010, 21:27:45 UTC
If a corporation takes over the gov't, then the corporation can tell you what to say.

Of course, you may respond that you could strip the power away from the gov't to do these things... which is true in theory, but historically, before the gov't had much power, corporations just did all the stuff that you said they couldn't.

Mining corporations controlled mining towns and enforced their prerogatives at gunpoint.
Large cartels and corporations hired goons to beat up people who spoke out against them.

So, again, I say it is not that simple. Remove gov't, and corporations will just assume all the powers that you abhor in gov't.

For a fee, I can give you however much complexity you require. johnbutler January 22 2010, 23:15:27 UTC
This is 2010. You do not live in the mining town from some Tennessee Ernie Ford song. I am not dealing in anything hypothetical; I am describing things as they currently are in the U.S. There are no corporations trying to "silence" you with the threat of force.
