The Rabbinate

I have a meeting with my Rabbi next week to discuss the possibility of going to Rabbinical school. He says I would be "an awesome Rabbi." That's good news. But, have I gone nuts?

No, it would be cool! Did you hear they have a new (another) rabbi at BU? Rabbi Heller? He is kind of goofy, slightly frat-boy-esque, based on his Yom Kippur speech. But basically if he could be a rabbi, you could be a rabbi :-P

Yes, I've met him. I was there on Rosh Hashanah. He is definitely goofy. I'm not really so fond of BU Hillel employing two Orthodox Rabbis. But that's BU Hillel for you. I'm glad you don't think it's a bad idea.

I was actually sitting at Yom Kippur services thinking maybe when I'm middle-aged I should try rabbinical school.

Yeah? Awesome! Why middle age?

I think it's good that you're trying to find yourself, and not just sticking to one path.

Plus, you're like super knowledgeable and stuff, so you wouldn't have to go to mechina or anything.

I dunno, I have been out of practice for quite some time. I might have to. But that would be cool either way.

Yeah, but the fact that you know what "mechinah" is, means you're ahead of the game.
