I agree. Although the MTA sucks as a whole, the workers are just greedy scum trying to take advantage of something that is already a clusterf*ck. If they strike, I hope some severely pissed off New Yorkers clobber them, and I'm not even kidding. I hear (though my source at the govenor's office) that the union is terrified of public opinion on this. The public should REALLY give them something to be scared of.
RAWR!!!!

Did you hear? They offered to go to 6% raises, but only if the number of disciplinary actions that the bosses were allowed to write up was decreased...

WTF does that mean? There's a cap on the number of disciplinary actions that can be filed? That's INANE.

*applause*

A statement both on the state of affairs in the MTA as well as the sad, sad, SAD level of pay for EMS/fire/police in general. When I tell people around here what paramedics make (which is only about $1.50 an hour more than EMTs, hello has anyone ever looked at the difference in the knowledge base and responsibilities?) they're absolutely agast. As am I.

the twu is working hard to prevent anyone from bringing that up...when someone tries, their response is that "it has nothing to do with the pd and fd, this is about the transit workers"

uh-huh.

whatever.

Yeah. Ask a train conductor the following question: "If your train blows up, burns, crashes, or otherwise has a major malfunction, who is going to save your life and save the lives of your passengers, at great risk to their own life? And how much more do you get paid than that person? Good job stopping the train, pal."
