Given the time periods I would say that likely Depeche Mode's vocalist (I can't recall his name ATM) was trying to emulate David Sylvian. Regardless, all those guys were playing in the same electronic sandbox. ;)

Aww, shucks!
Actually, it's been hard to decide on what to choose for him with so many CDs in the collection. Tonight he said he wanted some experimental stuff, so I grabbed him Brian Eno, Stereolab, Syd Barrett, Esquivel, and Bowie's Low (my favorite Bowie album). He should have quite a day of music tomorrow. I hope he doesn't come home horrified!
Gay Godfather Ash is HUGE into David Sylvian, and got me a few of his CDs. My problem thus far is that I think I would like him and I would like some of his stuff, but I have not heard anything thus far that I like of his...does that make sense? Weird...But I'm hard to get music for, and literally because a crappy pop song has one particular little interval of notes in it or is in a certain key, I might like it.

And I think that's quite a fine day of music--those would all work well together IMHO. (Depending on which Eno you chose, of course!)
