Yahoo! Groups and their broke-ass character sets

I am extremely frustrated with Yahoo! Groups today. Their support of character sets other than iso-8859-1 (aka latin-1 aka extended ASCII) is bad and wrong. Apparently if someone posts to a list using any other character set (say... utf-8?), it archives the message but completely ignores the character set. Yahoo Email seems to do something similar. Must be something in the water. :-P

I can't really wrap my head around the general lack of support for UTF-8 character sets in the public, what's worse are the blank stares I get from people when I bring it up in LIBRARIES! argh.

Pet Peeve 98,232 of mine is that apache (since version 2 I think) automatically comes with anything besides the latin set disabled by default.

The whole thing just offends my sense of principle since the internet is suppose to be this broad medium of information exchange, for them to limit that capacity by default just chaffs me.

In conclusion I would just like to say "hurrumph!". Thank you.
