So lately I've been back at making time to read over my lunch break. Lately it's been God Against the Gods. In previous chapters the author talked about monotheism and polytheism in ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Palestine, right up to last chapter talking about Constantine's rise to power in Rome. I have the opposite thought when it comes to moving the capitol of Rome, why didn't they move it sooner. Cultural reasons for thinking of it as "home" aside, Rome is pretty much on the left hand boundary of civilization up through to Constantine's time. Constantinople is basically more toward a economic and cultural center of the ancient world if you consider Rome, Greece, Persia and Egypt as the true players in the world at that time. I have to wonder as well if equivalent idea of a new world order was going on at that time... phone have to go but those are basically my thoughts.

I wonder if getting away from the big city wasn't a move to make more of.... what we would call a federal government and deprive the roman aristocracy of any fun.
I just read Ceasar's autobiography for the civil war and their whole system is kinda mysterious... foriegn? Like "lets do really well in battle to make a buck and get elected?"
It's kinda like wall street meets washington DC?

but if he wanted to get "outside the beltway" and off manhattan.... I can see why you would move the capital to Dallas or St Louis.
