I heart ancient Greek

But I'm getting a little iffy on Teach Yourself Ancient Greek. I'm in chapter four, and the section exercises are moving a bit too quickly for self-study. They're also expecting the reader to memorize vocabulary that they don't exercise at all in the present section, but start using some sections later, confident that it was learned without ( Read more... )

Damned annoying, it is.

Had a random otaku-girl asking me for a recommendation for a good Japanese self-study book, and I had to admit my rather limited knowledge of Eastern languages. Can you recommend one in case it comes up again?

I wish I could remember the text that the GreekStudy list uses. I wonder if it is better. I do remember looking at the title on Amazon once and seeing that it was not one that you already own.

Are you using a total immersion program? They use that technique a lot.

Nope. Just a plain ol' self-teaching book. I've used some total immersion style teaching tools. They do it more gracefully. This feels accidental.
