This is an excerpt from a comment I made on someone else's journal in reply to someone calling the government incompetent because of the current tragedy in NOLA. Frankly the whole sad situation has me tense in the first place, and hearing people manufacture a way to use it as a political tool -- yet another excuse to lambast Bush -- frankly has me ( Read more... )

I'm not criticizing the govt. because of its repsonse to the looters, but frankly Bush & Co. deserve their fair share of blame in neglecting the pleas of NO & LA for federal funds to shore up the levees (so they could send that money to Iraq) and for stripping over 25% of the LA National Guard (so they could send them to Iraq).

Ben, thank you for so eloquently portraying my anger with this situation in a way I have not been able to, and like you, I'm so frustrated, I'm tired of hearing all the bullshit and anger focused in the wrong direction.

Thank you for you common sense, where my anger fails me to put coherent thoughts together.

Ok, livejournal at the first post. *grr* I was saying...I have two things. First, why are people concerned about looting when they should be concerned about health conditions? I mean, where are the looters going to take their loot? As horrible as that sounds, it's true. Those cities are devastated and having an extra necklace or vase or TV isn't going to help you much. Right now money doesn't mean anything. The only people down there who aren't in that situation are people handing out stuff FREE like water. So loot is kinda stupid to have. Yes it's illegal and bad, but useless. Second, the shooting I can see as being a problem, but the looting...most people down there I would think are concerned about staying alive, not stealing. There isn't like a secret stash of medical supplies, food and water for the looters so they can continue their spree, is there? I mean, these people need help too, and they can't exactly walk around with all these possession in the heat and humidity with no food or water. That doesn't even make ( ... )
