Dude, it's ridiculous how many roguelikes I've played. I've even written about my continuing obsession with @ and her adventures on my webpage (ooo, I really ought to update that page... some of the links are a tad out of date, and I've played six or seven more games since then). I really-o truly-o think a lot of 'modern' computer games could learn a helluva lot from roguelikes - inventory management should be simple and straightforward, giving the player more freedom is good (but it's also nice to have plotty options available), imagination always trumps fancy graphics... it goes on and on. Anywho, there's my half a nickel. I go back to the word mines now.

Hmm, I haven't played any of the classic roguelikes except for Nethack. Am curious to, though.

I think I would completely agree, about modern games and roguelikes -- and also add that many of them /have/ learned quite a bit from them, starting with Diablo.
