I've Fallen Down the Whovian Rabbit Hole

Apr 27, 2013 02:22

For years I resisted Doctor Who as something that was somehow too geeky for me. It was a British thing, it was a cult thing, it had this huge history that I could never catch up on. But as more and more of my geek friends were talking about the show and how much they liked it, I did start to get quietly curious.

This way for my Who thoughts )

There are lots of different ways people recommend getting into Classic Who. I'll just say, for the first while, stick with the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Doctors. (That's Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and Peter Davison ( ... )

Thanks for these detailed recommendations :) That seems like a very manageable list. Not sure how I'll do with Classic Who once I get to it (I only lasted two hours into the original Battlestar Galactica), but I'd like to give it a shot. And in a pinch, I'm at least watching the BBC America The Doctors Revisited specials :)

I love this post!! I can seriously say my favorite Doctor is whomever the current one is at this point. I can't really claim one to be 'my' Doctor since they all have points and traits I love. Nine had a bit of darkness in him that I enjoyed. And Ten had a thread of it in him, but played it with a more subtle flair. And Eleven, given the way Ten ended, seems to maybe have a better handle on things. Amy's Choice comes to mind. Eleven knew exactly who the Dreamweaver guy represented. I don't know, that really resonated with me.

I could go on for days...but I won't. LOL I do rather like how Eleven somewhat backhandedly addressed stuff from Ten's era with his 'reset' death. Don't know how else to describe it. The awesome thing for me is when he told, crap, can't remember his name, but the blue head guy, he'd gotten too big and that tied back to the Waters of Mars episode when Ten decided he WOULD alter a fixed point in time. *shrugs* I get all geeky over stuff like that. :)

Thanks for sharing your joy!

I didn't appreciate Nine at the time, but I can see the reason for him now and he did have his moments. Ten was special and definitely the one I'd consider the most attractive of the Doctors. But Eleven just has something special that I really enjoy. He's awkward but brilliant and he has the biggest heart.

And yes, great that Eleven learned from Ten. The end of the Waters of Mars episode was chilling. But thankfully relatively short lived.
