I had chicken pox naturally, but if I hadn't, I'd get the vaccination.

I don't understand people who don't vaccinate. I knew of two families who came to the library who had anti-vax parents. One boy got diphtheria at age four and died. His brother had it too, but was a little older and survived. This put me permanently in the vaccination camp forever.

The second kid was home schooled (the first two kids may have been too...it meant they didn't have the obligatory vaccinations to be enrolled in public school) and died at the age of 8. I no longer had my source in town to tell me what it was, but the rumor was that it was mumps.

Both families moved away. I don't know why, but I know a lot of people judged them.

This happened in Massachusetts? I can't believe they wouldn't have been charged with medical neglect unless they took the children to the hospital. Parents like this choose ideology over their own children's health - and yeah, I damn well would and will judge them as irresponsible. Sometimes peer pressure combined with medical back-upped knowledge is a legit thing. I'm just sorry their children had to pay the price of their ignorance. These diseases aren't to be messed around with.

My sister is anti-vax and I want to shake her every time I see her. Why one would want to take the chance - no matter how slim - that their children will contract something easily preventable and get so ill they end up in the hospital (or morgue) is beyond me.
