Ziploc baggies are a good start, but then you need to keep it together and sorted.

Where is it going to stay? If it's going to live on a shelf, plastic storage tubs with lids are good. I'd advise against one big one, because it would be hard to use due to weight. Multiple smaller ones might be better, with labels on them to tell at a glance what the contents are.

Another option is a tote bag, or maybe a backpack. Could still live on a shelf, but if it's ever needed, it's easy to pick it up and go. Something with a lot of pockets.

You might want to consider leaving the original boxes on the shelf (maybe in a plastic bin) and just Ziploc up enough of each item to fit in a portable container. I've had good luck with a plastic toolbox (holds all the basic book repair stuff) too.

And then I found...this.

The backpack it's all going to live in is in the picture to the left in all its green, gory glory. Most of what you see on the couch will indeed live its original box, with four or five set ups in the backpack.

So, pretty much what you said. :)
