Foreign Service Officers represent the U.S. government all over the world. They usually follow one of five career tracks. These tracks are administration, consular, economic, political and public diplomacy. Though no matter what track a person may follow, they still will be representing the United States at official functions, ceremonies, and meetings.

Though, no matter what track a person may follow, they still will be representing the United States at official functions, ceremonies, and meetings. Administrative officers deal with day-to-day operations, managing all property, financial and human resources in embassies and consulate. They do business and managing work. Consular officers work with people offering medical, legal, personal, and traveler assistance to travelers, as well as foreigners seeking visas. They issue passports, register births and deaths, and decide whether a person is eligible for U.S. citizenship. Economic officers study U.S. economic relations with other counties. They mainly write papers to advise State Department officials. Political officers outside of the US keep the US informed on international events that affect American interests. Political
