I admire your determination to have kids regardless of how things work out with a man. No-one should ever have to give up their dream because of the unreliability of others! Personally I never ever want children, but it's lovely that you feel that strongly in the other direction...someone has to keep having them after all!

I was raised by a single mother and was an unplanned pregnancy, she did try and have a relationship with my father but it failed within the 1st year... pregnancy and the first year of a babies life are probably the most trying things a relationship can ever go through, mostly through sleep deprivation so it's easy to undertsand why thing's don't work out.
I did have my entry reply to this open but have just now closed it to friends. (Mum of 5 month old and 2 (in april) year old) Not written in that entry - I had like you wanted a child but had been with my partner for 2 1/2 years. I had decided that I wanted a child even if I ended up without the partner tho. and the second one is so close together in part because I wanted 2 children (I'm an only-child) by the same dad, and i did want them close in age. But I know my partner would never tolerate another man raising his son and so that was a factor.
