More thoughts about fic preferences ....

So last week I posted Part I of my ... er ... lengthy tract discussion of Why I Love What I Love in Slash, and I promised more!  Well, far be it from me to renege on a promise, and besides, I'm happy for any excuse to talk about slash, and Pros, and stories, and to analyze Why I Feel What I Feel ( Read more... )

It's not that I necessarily disagree with the message - that's not the point. It's just that fanfic for me is an escape, a refuge. I do it for pure pleasure. If I want to think about social or political issues I'll read the news, or some meaningful piece of published fiction, or something other than fanfic.

I'm not really crazy about stories written like that in published fiction, either. An issue, whether part of a fanfic or published fic, should still mesh with the rest of the story.

Yes! Luckily this doesn't seem to happen *too* often in fandom, but it drives me crazy when it does ... I don't like that much authorial intrusion in my fic anyway (or at least I don't want to be aware of the intrusion!)

Nearly all the fics I write start off with the guys shagging and go from there

You wanna come write in my fandom??! *g* *g* That's the model I really love ...

And thanks for dropping by! :-)

I just wanted to comment that these entries are realy GOOD and gives food for thought.

If I want to think about social or political issues I'll read the news, Exactly! We're here for entertainment. That doesn't mean that I don't want the characters to relate to a "real" world, it's just that the focus shoulde be on them and not the outside world.
I can think of an exception, though - when fans write new "virtual" episodes for the series and make it centred around a new case. But then again, for me to read that, it has to have relationship-developing issues in it as well *g*
Sorry - rambling here, has to run for work...
Thanks again for these thoughtful entries!

Yes! And I generally don't really like "virtual" episodes very much, unless they are very closely focused on the relationship; I'm not all that interested in the intrigue and the whodunnit, or whatever, or at least not for it's own sake.

And I'm glad you're enjoying... :-)

I think now I might understand why I don't like slash that much.

I love plot, dislike relationships, and enjoy it when an author adds factual information to a story.

It seems my tastes are pretty much opposite to yours.

To each their own. *shrug*

Yep, preferences are funny things, but luckily in fandom there seems to be something for everyone....
