I am home from the UK and - finally - recovered, mentally and physically (but primarily mentally), enough to actually write about it. Part of me so envies people who are able to write regular, short LJ posts describing their trips and things; I never am, though, because it has to percolate in my mind before I'm able to put it into words. I want to visit the U.K. someday, but was uncertain if I'd be like a fish out of water. I knew about Connotations, but not when it was scheduled. Everyone I've corresponded with over there has been so nice and generous and it would be great to actually meet them. I'd love to visit sometime and see all the 'Pros' places, but at the same time I'm afraid of imposing my wants. Do 'they' get tired of doing the Pros tours?
I realize there are other shows besides Pros (really!), but Pros seems to have taken over my fannish life. Other fandoms are taking a back seat and I almost resent it when I'm pulled away to do something in another fandom, even though I'm 'into' the other fandom. So it reassures me to see some of your thoughts.
Thanks for posting!

Mind you, being of a "certain age," I recognize that mere national divides really don't completely address the question of "getting it right." Even if I hadn't lived in England for many years, I suspect I might still get Pros "more right" than some British authors who are, say, twenty. I lived through the period in which Pros is set, and therefore some of the elements of that show (or any late-70's show) are going to be more natural to me than to a much younger fan (e.g., one who wasn't born until the 80's).

This entire post really interested me, but especially the part about the archivist's dilemma of duty to the fandom versus abiding by an author's request. I have a friend who is an archivist in another fandom and will bring up this topic with her.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with us. I really look forward to reading more about your Pros wallow.
And I'm glad you're gettig over your need to apologize for your pollyanna attitude, which I find very refreshing.
