It's a pendulum. Society as a whole goes from Super-Poliically Correct to OMG Freedom of Speech should include freedom to discriminate. We as a country are either attacking those who are different, or attacking the attackers. Right now, the country is in between. A Majority are defending liberties (as the pendulum swings more toward the Democratic mindset), while a good percentage of the country are still willing to entertain ideas of limiting our freedoms and bashing all that is "Un-American."

You want to do an interesting study? Walk around the streets and ask everyone you come across if they think "In God We Trust" belongs on our currency. The interesting part, is that a surprising lot will say it does not belong there, but they have no interest in working toward removing it. The pendulum is in mid-swing.
