Pairing: domestic!JongKey
Rating: PG
Genre: Crack-y Humour (because I felt like it \o/)
Summary:
Kibum can be a little dramatic, but he considers it to be justified at a time like this.
A/N: This takes place about 11 years after
A Matter of Balance and was birthed from a delirious moment of “wouldn’t it be funny when” followed by “yeah I bet he’d flip out”. In other words, this was intended as humour. Thanks for reading!!
(P.S. Their daughter is named Suhyun and is around 12 ½ here.)

“Daaad?” Suhyun shouts from the bathroom.
“Yeah?” Kibum answers from where he’s eating breakfast, seated across from his son. He was still pretending to be mad at him because the teenager suddenly decided he wanted to get his ears pierced for his fifteenth birthday (but in reality Kibum couldn’t wait to show him his own - extensive - collection of ear studs).
“Um,” Suhyun hesitates, speaking loudly from the other side of the door, “is Myungki listening?”
The boy in question looks at his father, seemingly just as confused as him. Kibum merely shrugs, clueless, before standing up and leaving his food to turn cold in his plate. He trudges up to the bathroom door, still rather sleepy, and knocks on it softly to let his daughter know he’s there.
“It’s me,” he assures her, “I’m alone now. What is it, baby?”
“Um…” comes the same muted answer; she sounds a bit weird, though, and suddenly Kibum’s heart is thrown into a frenzy. What if she fell in the shower and broke her leg or slipped and banged her head on the counter or sliced herself while shaving? He knew he should have bought her higher quality razors, the non-disposable kind, and he should have placed anti-slip stickers on the floor - actually, maybe he still has some leftover from when he and Jonghyun used to-
“You know that thing you told me would happen one day?” she announces vaguely.
“Huh?”
“Well it happened.”
“What are you…” he wonders, but then it hits him. “Oh.” Indeed, oh.
“Y-yeah,” she confirms, slight discomfort in her tone.
“Oh god,” Kibum croaks. But she - his baby was still so young! “Oh god oh god oh god, don’t move honey I’ll be right back,” he rushes through the words before dashing to his and Jonghyun’s bedroom. He can feel the hysteria bubbling up inside him and he knows he’s being dramatic but, dear god, he can’t help it. Jonghyun is still sleeping soundly, and Kibum almost jumps onto their bed to shake him awake. Jonghyun rolls over with a groan but Kibum doesn’t stop shaking him so he tells him “I’m up, I’m up.” It’s not very convincing, considering his face is still half-buried into his pillow and Kibum is adamant with his wake up call so Jonghyun has no choice but to eventually sit up and rub his barely-opened eyes.
“Calm down, Key, what is it?”
“It’s Suhyun,” he wheezes, and that has Jonghyun tensing up on the mattress at once. “She just had her first period.”
Jonghyun is definitely awake now, his eyes as round as coins as he stares at Kibum.
“Call your sister,” Kibum tells him hastily, “now.”
Kibum is positively freaking out while Jonghyun fumbles over to their night table for his phone; he finds it lying under one of Kibum’s books and pushes the younger man off the bed when he only sits there, fidgeting.
“Pads,” Jonghyun reminds him, and Kibum is off and out of the room in an instant.
“Right, pads,” he mumbles to himself, trying to remember where he put the stack he had bought a while ago, just in case. He ransacks the closet at the end of the hallway and ends up finding them tucked behind their beach towels. He grabs the purple package and rushes back to knock on the bathroom door, leaving the closet a mess.
“Yes?”
He opens the door and finds his daughter sitting on the toilet in her oversized pyjamas. He drops to his knees and hugs her from the side before handing her the stack of pads.
“Are you alright? Do you have a stomach ache? I can run to the pharmacy and buy you some Midol if you-”
“Dad,” she mutters awkwardly, “I’m fine.”
“Okay,” Kibum says, more to himself as he stands back up, “okay,” he repeats and his daughter eyes him warily. “Your aunt will be on the phone soon, so if you have any questions she’ll be able to help you,” he promises on his way out.
“But I’m f-” she protests, though Kibum shuts the door then and doesn’t hear her over the pounding of his heart. He finds Jonghyun and Myungki waiting in the hallway next to the door; Jonghyun scratches his head, worsening the state of his bed hair. He’s clutching his cell phone in his other hand and Kibum eyes it anxiously.
“Songdam was busy, she’ll call back in a few minutes,” he explains, making Kibum sort of want to grab his phone and press redial until she answers, but he trusts his sister-in-law. “Will she be okay?” Jonghyun asks, visibly concerned.
Kibum only nods, not trusting his voice to be levelled at a time like this; not that it matters anymore because there are tears suddenly brimming in his eyes. Jonghyun notices and pulls him into a hug - Kibum wastes no time pressing his face into his neck and sniffles loudly.
“Our little girl, she’s…” he ends up speaking anyway, voice breaking towards the end, and Jonghyun’s arms tighten around him, “she’s growing up.”
“She’s a woman, now,” Jonghyun whispers with his lips buried in Kibum’s hair, but it turns out to be the wrong thing to say considering Kibum then releases a full-out sob and Myungki comes over to pat him on the back.
“Does that mean I can make period jokes now?” the teen asks.
“NO!” they hear Suhyun screech from the bathroom. Jonghyun lets out a chuckle while Kibum’s sobs become even louder.
