SUPANOVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SUPANOVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SUPANOVA WAS TODAY!!!
AND TOMORROW!
Guys, it was SO good.
So, we got to the place and we were like 'shit'. The line stretched for miles, weaving all around the buildings and down and stuff. We had to stand in line for about an hour. I don't know why they were so inept at it. All we had to do was show our ticket. But we got in, nonetheless.
We got there at about 11:15 and Charisma Carpenter was at 11:30 so we rushed over to the JB-HI-FI theatre where she was speaking, but we were early. Next to the theatre was the Star Signing Panel.
This was where I freaked out. Like, my heart was beating so fast, I was jumping up and down, grinning. Eliza Dushku, Charisma Carpenter, Dichen Lachman and Summer Glau were RIGHT THERE. Like...less than ten metres away. In the flesh! It was just.... These are people I idolise, they're like...Gods, and there they were!
So after I had my little freak out (my brother was not amused. He just stood there going 'Aha...' although when I tried to walk off to get seats early for Charisma, he pulled me back and was all 'Hey, there's Echo. And if you just wait for that person to move you can see River (yeah, he refers to them as their character names. It's really cute)) we went to Charisma's Q&A
She was adorable. She wasn't really very good at talking--she answered the questions pretty abruptly and she didn't really seem like she knew what to say--but she is so like Cordy it's not even funny! There was someone speaking over the loud speakers so we couldn't hear what she was saying and she was like, "Who's that speaking? Rude, much?" and she was like bitching about that "wrench" (her words) who broke up Sandra Bullocks marriage. It was hilarious.
After that we walked around a bit, and then decided to go and get Signature tokens to get signatures, and I wanted to get a photo with Eliza Dushku. Unfortunately, the line was ridiculously long. We were in that about an hour, and by the time we got to the front, the line for photos with Eliza had fanned out all along the back wall, so I was like 'No way in hell I'm waiting in another line.' So I decided I'd get a photo with Dichen instead. At the signature booth things, the lines for Eliza and Summer were always incredibly long, but half the time Dichen only had a couple people. I felt sorry for her, but I guess it's because she's only been in Dollhouse, and who watches Dollhouse?
Actually, that's one of the things I was really disappointed about. I thought that, since they had three actresses from Dollhouse, and four Whedonverse actors, there would, you know, but a lot of Whedonverse merchandise. Not the case. There was no Dollhouse merch at all, but I guess that's just because there isn't any...anywhere (grr)
But there was barely any Buffy, Firefly and Angel stuff either. There were a couple of places that had tshirts (I got a Buffy and a Doctor Who shirt) bu that was it. The problem I think with this con is that the majority of the stalls are for anime and games, but the actual stars they got were all from TV shows or movies, so it was a bit stupid.
But, anyway, so after standing in line, eating lunch, and wandering around for a bit, we saw Summer Glau. I had stupidly forgotten a camera (I know, it was so completely idiotic) but I managed to steal my friend's for Summers Q&A. She was lovely. So funny and sweet. I took heaps of photos, which I think I'm gonna make into a picspam for my Whedonland end of apocalypse big bang thing, but we weren't allowed flash and my hand is so unstable, so most of them are heaps blurry. But I don't care.
There was one hilarious story she told. Apparently on the Firefly set, there was some film or studio guy who had this toy monkey that kept making noises while they were filming. So Nathan decided to steal or "abduct" it. At first, he sent ransom pictures to the guy of the monkey in his trailer, etc. but then he sent the monkey on a trip with his parents, so the guy got sent pictures of his monkey at the Grand Canyon and places like that. It was all in good fun, until Nathan cut the monkey's thumb off and sent it to the guy! So this poor studio guy received his beloved toy monkey's thumb in the mail. She said after that it started getting serious, and the monkey was eventually returned.
Oh, there was this little girl who was at both Charisma and Summer's Q&A, and because she was a little kid, she got to ask questions both times. She asked the strangest questions... She was like to Summer, "At the supermarkets and when you go out, do you get crowded? Like, do you feel crowded?" And Summer's like, "Um...no, I don't feel crowded.... Do you?" It was pretty funny, but it was a bit strange.
The costumes were wonderful, too! Most were dressed as anime or games, which I didn't know, but there were teenage mutant ninja turtles, an entire Firefly crew (and the woman dressed as Inara looked so much like her!), a Tom Baker and a Matt Smith, a Spike... And there was someone in a Dalek driving around, which was awesome. I felt really left out of it not being dressed up (although heaps of people weren't) so I think tomorrow I'm going to go as Oz in Fear Itself. Pretty much just dress normally but with a name tag saying 'GOD' on it. Only Whedon people will get it, but that's okay :)
Oh, and the lines were huge for all the stars. I bought coupons for Eliza Dushku, Summer Glau, and a photo with Dichen Lachman (which came out to $100) and I'll get them done tomorrow, when there are less people. Sundays are always less crowded.
So, all in all, it was a FANTASTIC day. I am so excited to actually get to meet the stars, and to touch Dichen (yes, that is creepy. no, I don't care) but I'm worried I'll be too shy to say anything much, which is as I am with everything. It's really horrible. But...we shall see. I will make another massive post about tomorrow when I get home on Sunday :)
