GR Sketchathon #4: Leon Trotsky

So " Pulp Librarian" on Twitter inadvertently inspired the next sketch in the Countdown to the big 7-0 GR sketchathon when they re-posted this gem of a comic strip panel again earlier today:

Those secret police are so well disguised... Lol.

Anyway, here's sketch numbre quatre - GR as Leon Trotsky from "Frida" (2002)!

Sketch of Geoffrey Rush as Trotsky by me.

He actually made Trotsky hawt, being the master of bedroom eyes that he is. The film itself is bloody good actually, Salma Hayek is brilliant in it. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, it was the third attempt having scrapped two previous sketches.

On a personal side note: I have a postcard of (the real) Trotsky sent to me from Geoff in response to some fan mail from many years ago - he doodled a speech bubble on it coming from Trotsky’s mouth with him saying something, and then wrote a message on the back, too. It’s one of my faves. I think Geoffrey just used to pick shit up lying about his house that he’d collected when researching roles (this Trotsky postcard is from a museum so he must have been doing prep for the part), or received as freebies from movie premieres and the like and think “I’ll personalise this and send it to my fans!” It’s like owning part of his personal history, I love it.

And the rest of the Countdown-to-Geoff’s-70th-birthday sketches I’ve done so far:

If you have any requests for future sketches, lemme know! Especially if it's an obscure role.
