We saw it last night - you've captured my sentiments quite well - it made me cry, laugh, the action was great, and the dialogue NOT corny! yay!!!! I thought each actor did a great job capturing just a taste of the original character which made it loads of fun. Great plot, too! Great SCORE! Ah! Very satisfying - I haven't been this all-around pleased with a movie since Pirates and even that was a bit Disney at times...
It actually has me hungry for a new ST series featuring these new actors. I'd love to see it. "Fascinating!"
"Romulans, dammit!"
I think they fell a little short of explaining the relationship between the Romulan and the Vulcan races. They are supposed to resemble each other a bit more than they were portrayed in this movie - and I think playing up that resemblance would have added more to the drama.
The weather has really heated up here - and with all the rain things are a bit humid. I'm not complaining, though - I finally removed the ice scraper from the backseat of my car today! :#)
Can't read the spoilers - so tempting, though - it just makes me want to see it more! Damn being in a foreign country! And you're probably right about introducing the franchise to new people - I haven't even seen the film yet, but with all this hype I actually feel tempted to dip into my Dad's Star Trek DVD collection - sexism and sleaziness of the original series aside.
Anyway hope work wasn't too tiring. Best of luck with end of year. ;D
Heheh - I had a look at some of the Star Trek spin-off series on TV - Next Gen, Voyager, and all that - but none of them really ticked any boxes for me. I'd like to see some of the original series just for comparison -- though whether I could get through a whole episode is another thing. :) But I am curious now.
(And I thought I would never be converted to Trekdom...)
Where I live at the moment, cinema tickets cost over £7 and most DVDs retail at between £10 and £12, so there's not a massive difference in price. Not all cinemas are as expensive as my local, but a lot of them are. Damn them! (And they wonder why so many people buy pirated DVDs!)
