It sounds like a fun time... Good luck with the costume. ^_^ Have you considered pvc (sp?) piping for the staff? Lighter weight than dowels... my brother's larp group uses piping as the base for their weapons and staves...
You might be the one to ask this: Could you help me pick a cosplay character? I'd rather not be something that's been done to death. The catch: I have to wear my glasses, and contacts aren't an option. sigh. I can get pics up if it'd help... planning to revamp my website as a garb/costume portfolio sometime soon. Just need to get some film developed and some pics scanned. I don't know what I could offer for the assistance... pocky? do you like pocky?
PVC piping, you say? Cheap it is at most hardware stores.
*strokes chin*
I do say some compensation for the tip is in order. :D You wanna cosplay someone with glasses that isn't cosplayed to death, eh? And you have to wear glasses, hmmm? That does limit things a bit, but no worries.
Okay, I will do some research. If you give me some pics and some possible ideas, I will put my skills and humble assitance at your disposal. Pocky is wonderful, but no need. ACen is a time for sharing the cosplay love. And we have pretty much a year to start this thing! So I say, like the ACen 2006 countdown BEGIN!!
It's easy to cut through, too. Their "weapons" are usually piping, wrapped in foam, and thoroughly coated in duct tape. ^_^
Yeah, I have to wear the glasses. It's that, or run into things all the time. Stupid disfunctional eyes. sigh. Developed dry eye syndrome, so can't wear contacts anymore. sigh. I miss my peripheral vision.
Compensation can be found. I be poor, but I have lots of time and imagination to spare... I do cake decorating, sometimes... do you like cake? ^_^ Cosplay is so fun. ^_^ I figure, if I follow your lead and start now, the costume might be done in time. Mostly, I just need a character I can do, and then I'll go on the mad pic-hunting mission to see if I can figure out how to make it. Must get photos up soon, ne? Hm... maybe if I start coding now, I'll just have to insert the pics later... *looks at ironing board* ...after the second pair of bloomers is done...
