onetruesikorsky. C: I apologize at how bad this probably is. :\ My first time writing Hiccup so I'm still trying to find his voice, if you know what I mean.
“How long do you think it's going to last?” Hiccup murmured with a sigh as he leaned back against his dragon companion, his journal laid out across his lap as he watched the rain pour outside the cave they had taken up shelter in. Eyes opening briefly, Toothless looked outside for a long moment before a low rumble escaped him, tail thumping against the ground before he snorted and let his eyes close again. “...Great input there, buddy,” the viking said with a shake of his head and a faint grin.
Rain was one downfall to being a dragon rider. Sure riding in it could be done but it wasn't fun, for dragon or rider. And with the way this storm was coming down? It was probably better that they just stay put.
The distant sound of thunder drew Hiccup out of his thoughts, the young man unable to help the sigh that escaped as Toothless gave another low rumble; this one most likely of annoyance.
“I know, I know. We could walk back if you really wanted to.”
A sharp thump of the dragon's tail against the ground was his reply.
“You aren't afraid of getting wet are you?” he asked, glancing at his companion who's eyes were open again and glaring at the human. Hiccup couldn't help but grin. “Just asking.” Lips curling, Toothless snorted and smacked his rider with his wing, gently of course but enough to make Hiccup almost fall over. “Alright, alright! I get it!” Righting himself Hiccup laughed faintly as he got comfortable once more, stretching his arms over his head before flopping back against Toothless. “I just hope it stops soon. We're supposed to be meeting up with the others and you know how Astrid gets if we make her wait too long.”
Toothless made a sound that was most definitely a groan of sorts which spurred Hiccup into laughter again.
“At least we have a real excuse this time.”
Thunder rumbled again, louder this time as the storm settled in right over top of them now, lightening tearing across the sky as the rain continued to pour. It was actually rather peaceful, all things considered, and at some point between Hiccup grabbing his journal that had been tossed aside and sketching, Toothless drifted off. The rise and fall of the dragon's chest was a clear sign for the young man and he paused in his drawing, turning enough to reach over and stroke a hand over the dragon's head. Smiling faintly as his companion made a faint purring sound, Hiccup glanced down as Toothless' tail swept around to curl around them both.
“Rest well, buddy. I'll wake you when the storm passes,” he murmured, letting his hand fall away as he settled back against Toothless again and went back to sketching.
