A/N: This could be taken as out of character on Clint’s part but I wanted to show that there could be a side to Clint that we aren’t really seeing because he is always so closed off and defensive.
“Hey Clint.” Pete landed on the floor and straightened, looking at his blond teammate. “Why?”
“Why what kid?” the former arched asked. He knew what was going to be asked but that didn’t mean he wanted to answer.
“Why is your inner-self Captain America?”
“…Just drop it.”
“No! I want to know!” The serious tone in Peter’s voice caught Clint by surprised. The blond studied the wall crawler for a long moment, for once, looking at Pete, not Spider-man. It took a moment but it dawned on him and something clicked in his head. Reaching over, his hand rested on Pete’s shoulder and squeezed it lightly. For once, he let his mask slip.
“Because he was a hero to me too.”
