Title: Daddy Come Home
Rating: PG-13 for character death
Comic(s): New Avengers
Characters: Tony Stark/Iron Man, Arianna Stark-Rogers
A/N: This is based off a roleplay between my fiancee and I yet again. Arianna is the product of Steve betting Tony that he could not figure out how to get a male pregnant in ten days. Of course, Tony figured it out. Thus, Arianna was born. And from there, things just seemed to go downhill…

Both her daddies had been gone for a long time. She wasn’t sure what was going on but she knew that it was serious. Her daddy had told her to press the button after all. Thus, the four-year-old daughter of Captain America and Iron Man had ended up at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.

She had asked the professor many times when her daddies would be back but he hadn’t given her a real answer. The bald man had smiled and touched her cheek, telling her to go play with Kitty and Storm.

That had been a few hours ago.

Clutching her pet cat, the little girl stared at the television, sniffling every now and then. She really missed her daddies and was tired of being at the mansion. She wanted to go home and play with her own toys.

“Ari.” It was if her wish had been granted. Beaming, the little girl hopped around on the couch, peering over the back to look at her daddy.

“Daddy!” she squealed happily but, being the perceptive little one that she was, Arianna spotted the tear streaks on Tony’s face and confusion flickered through her young eyes. “Daddy what’s wrong?” It was at that moment that Arianna realized that something was missing. “Whewe’s Daddy?”

Tony was trying his best to hold it together. It was taking all he had not to just break down; to fall to his knees and cry.

And now, looking at his daughter…at his and Steve’s daughter…it was just all to much.

“Ari, please…stop.” He whispered, coming around the couch to sit with her, pulling the small child into his armor clad arms and holding her close, pressing his face into her hair as more tears began to fall.

“Daddy…wat’s wrong? Why isn’t Daddy hewe yet?” Having let go of her kitten, the little girl’s arms lifted to clutch her father’s neck.

“He…Daddy…Daddy isn’t coming home Ari. Not this time.” Tony whispered, a sob wracking his shoulders. Arianna blinked, quiet a moment before she nodded slightly.

“So, he’s gunna come home tomowwow?” Her innocence made it even harder for Tony and he hugged her tighter, shaking his head.

“No hunny. He…he can’t come home. He..”

“Did Daddy go to sleep foweva like Mw. Fishy did?” The small girl asked, peering into her father’s eyes as she tried to comprehend what he was telling her. Tony gazed back at his daughter, his daughter who looked so much like the man he had lost that day. After a silent moment, he let out a shaky sigh and stroked his fingers through Arianna’s blond hair.

“Yes hunny. Your daddy’s sleeping now. He’s going to be asleep for a very long time.” He paused then, trying to keep his composure. “But..it will be okay. I promise. Everything will be okay Ari.” Tony’s voice fell into a whisper and his eyes slid shut as his head came to rest against his daughter’s. Tears slipped from beneath closed lids splashing the four-year-old on the face.

She still wasn’t sure what her daddy meant, but Arianna knew that now she had to take good care of her daddy.

She had to make her other daddy proud of her.
