Why did I write this. This is only sorrow.

Title: Measures
Rating: T
Word Count: 3,915
Pairing: Ned/Catelyn
Prompt: "AU. Catelyn's dying (childbirth, fever) and knows it. She tells Ned he's loved someone before her, he can love someone after her. So Ned finally reveals R+L=J to her."

As it turns out, dying can be a more sedate thing, and it is not always measured in moments, but sometimes in hours and days. )

Oh. My. God. This is so heartbreaking.
I was hoping that in the end Cat would make a miraculous recovery or that it was just a horrible nightmare. I'm going to cry now... :(

HERE ARE SOME TISSUESSSSS

I left the end kind of ambigious!! THERE IS STILL TOTALLY A CHANCE THAT SHE WAKES UP AND IS 100% BETTER.

Wow, I eat up angst with a spoon and this was like a ten course meal. Cat's so amazing here. Her actually hoping that his supposed first love would give Ned strength to move on after her death was such a painfully selfless thought and then you had to hit poor, sick, dying Cat with such a strange irony. I love her acceptance of the truth. Anger, it seems, dies before all the rest is such a beautiful line.

Hahahaha, I know, I'm a super angst machine AND THIS WAS JUST OVER THE TOP ANGST FOR EVEN ME. I think Cat's reaction to a R+L=J reaction would be very, very different under different circumstances, and even she kind of knows that, here, but also knows she doesn't really have time to run the gamut of emotions. She just kind of has to come to terms (because why would he lie about this now - it must be true), and it makes her sad. And the lack of anger surprises her, but she really has no energy left for anger.

Thank you so much - so glad you liked!
