and he's from syria

A lot of middle eastern people have names that are just things. Its similar to how Cooper, for example, used to mean someone who looked after chickens. Stockler was probably someone who looked after farm animals.

About 70% of western names are like that, a few are descriptions [like, f'rinstnace, Judy Small - a mad feminist singer - was probably descended from a really short dude] some are identifiers by place, like Pauly Shore whose ancestors probably lived near the shore. Then there are some randoms.
