Toddler bedding? Plain, no characters, for a toddler bed? I found this one crib set I could split between the two of them (Gus and Max? Max and Gus?), and there's always the Company Store, but the pickings seem awfully slim. And covered in Dora.

Am I missing some great mecca of choices?

No, there is crap selection (putting it bluntly). As you said, it's either plain (which is cool for the crib sheet) or scratchy 10-count Dora/SpongeBob/etc festooned stuff.

I found one bearable toddler-sized comforter with a duvet cover from Amy Coe at Target. It was on clearance, $19.99. I think they still have them (here is something similar). The cover zips off. I have big ambitious plans to sew some new duvet covers so that they get all matchy-matchy with the room, but we'll have to see about that.
