Teddy's Something Every Day (Week, in my case)

May 02, 2015 18:52

Two things prompted today's thought.
  • At work last month, the restaurant area finally got a new manager after about eight months of having no manager. ("Better to have no manager than to have the wrong manager" thinking.) So the retaurant staff had to adjust. Last Friday, EVERYONE in the restaurant called in sick, so only the new manager was there. ( Read more... )

More and more I find people taken aback by a simple offer of assistance.

Urgh, dishes. I had to wash dishes for my mom when she had the deli and when we did catering. Heaps of dishes, by hand. Piles of chafing dishes, heaps of commercial sized pots and bowls and serving utensils. All by hand. I swear, I've done more dishes by hand than some people do in ten lifetimes.

And at home I have a dishwasher and I still loathe to do dishes. I wish I had a wand and could just do a few swish and flicks to make them just go away.

Now see, if you had a party at your house, I'd be very happy to wash the dishes for you. Seriously.

EVeryone called in sick on the same day? Sounds like a strike.

They were making a point, apparently. The new manager has been on training in another state all week, and an experienced manager from another state has been filling in for him, so we'll see what happens this week. Nobody has been sacked... yet....

I won't have a dishwasher because they annoy me on losts of levels, but yes, I've seen people behave this way, it's weird.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's weird. I grew up without a dishwasher and honestly wouldn't know what to do with one if I had it.

Was that a strike at the restaurant, then?

I haven't had a dishwasher to load in eighteen years. I forgot how to load a dishwasher. Now when my nieces whine about the chore, I tell them that I hope they live somewhere that has no dishwasher, so they have to wash everything by hand. And then I laugh like an evil Disney witch.

Good on you for being helpful. You show your quality when you do that.

Heh-heh! I am imagining you cackling like a Disney witch. Such a sympathetic auntie. XD
