Player Plot: The Mushroom Samba

Nov 01, 2011 19:45

With the conclusion of the Halloween events, the townspeople can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they're safe from the madness of Mayfield until Thanksgiving.  ...They are, right?

Go to sleep.  In the absolute darkness.  Don't do anything.  Don't see anyone.  Just sleep.

On November 17th, the town will experience a strange upsurge in growth as lovely, purple and white spotted mushrooms begin popping up all over the place.  Fortunately, nobody is stupid enough to experiment with anything unusual appearing out of nowhere, least of all in Mayfield.  ...Well, actually, if you are, that makes it a lot easier.

I'm gonna beat you.  I'm gonna beat you, boy.  Daddy's gonna beat you.

The mushrooms have no deleterious effects unless they are eaten.  To accommodate the characters with some semblance of common sense, the drones will helpfully see nothing wrong with treating it as a food item.  Drone wives may put it in the dinner without saying anything, drone kids may offer their friends a mushroom snack, and drone men may give their neighbors mushrooms that they've cultivated in the garden.

Let's switch places, Lucas.  Lucas.  Let's switch places!  You're more... you're more... you're more...

A single bite of a Tanetane Mushroom will send your character into wild hallucinations.  Every color will take on a psychodelic hue, every sound will be distorted, every sight will be misrepresented.  Toxic sludge will look like pristine water, random objects on the ground will appear to be priceless treasure, mailboxes will multiply and appear on every corner.  More importantly, almost everyone you come across will appear to you as someone you know well.  You may run into five or six different copies of your father, and it won't seem at all strange.

It's almost suppertime.  Hinawa should be back soon.  What?  She's not coming back?  Why?  Did you do something to her?  What did you do to her, Lucas?

The hallucinations are specifically designed to tear at the weaknesses and the scars in your heart.  Your doubts and fears will come to life, your closest friends and family will point out how you've failed them, and your worst experiences will be relived.  The people you see will verbally abuse you or act so bizarre that it's completely unnerving.  Opening a mailbox will result in 'nothing after nothing after nothing' pouring out, or a flood of rat corpses, or ear-splitting screams, or sheer, never-ending darkness, or postcards of yourself as a murderer and a criminal. In other words, everything that occurs under the influence of the mushrooms is designed to terrify you and make you miserable.  The effects of the hallucinogen will last for one day.

Everyone's waiting for you. Everyone's waiting to throw rocks at you, spit on you, and make your life hell.  Who's everyone?  ...Everyone you love.

Of course, no one is obligated to participate!  Just don't have your character eat a mushroom if you'd rather not put them through something like this.  Again, the player plot will begin November 17th and it will end on November 19th.  You're welcome to backdate entries afterwards, of course.

Thanks for reading through such a long post!  If you have any questions for me, ask them below!  You can also use the space for plotting if you'd like!  I expect this will come up, so yes, hallucinations may overlap - two characters on the mushrooms who have not incorporated each other into their hallucinations can share the same hallucinations, even if they're only applicable to one character.

ETA: Sorry for the trouble, guys, but due to a mix-up, the plot is very slightly altered!  Please do not make any reference to mushrooms being sold in the store when you make your entries.  Thanks!
ETAx2: If your character's previous trauma is extremely horrifying or includes topics that may be offensive or sensitive in nature, please label your entries appropriately and/or place them under a LJ-cut for the consideration of your fellow players!
