Oooooh! Guitar dreams!! You should have no trouble at all finding a guitar upgrade in that price range, especially if you watch for deals. Want to look at guitar porn and drool? Check out all the pretty at http://www.samash.com I got both my Ibanez six-strings there and it is an awesome place (and they ship). Also amazing is Elderly Instruments in Michigan... You might want to consider an acoustic electric (that is, an acoustic guitar with a built in amplification device) It just depends on what sort of music you want to play... electric is a whole different sound. I'm a folkie myself, so I've never priced electric guitars, but there are sure to be some that are reasonably priced.

I love that finish, it is Sooooo beautiful in person, just unbelievably rich. I debated about that guitar and played with it a bit, but wound up getting the Purple Ibanez instead. As for other brands, Taylors and Martins are top line but expensive. My friends Marte, Winston and Glenn play guitars by Takamine and friend Ally plays a Takamine and an Alvarez. I play guitars by Washburn (12 string)and Ibanez (both six strings). Again with Washburns (as with ( ... )
