Some time ago i heard a children choir sing that Mad World song in the gardend of the Luxemburg (some park in Paris); i knew i had heard it before but couldn't pinpoint the title or artist. Back home i googled it like a maniac, and listened to various mp3 by REM for i had a feeling the song was by them.

Only later on in a tv show did i hear it again, and could note a part of the lyrics. That made the search much easier ! Nice song, really.
