Greenland Part 2: Kicking Ice and Taking Names

Aug 30, 2008 05:06

First of all, I'm totally behind on comments.  Which is, I don't know, freaky?  I never thought I'd have enough comments to get behind on comments.  I'm coming, I promise.

The really sad thing is that I am no longer in Greenland proper.  Last night we took an overnight flight back to Copenhagen.  And I really, really didn’t want to go.  Copenhagen ( Read more... )

Thanks for the travelogue! I'm enjoying the details about life and education and stuff in Greenland. Wouldn't have expected to find Thai food there!

Totally understand I finally exercised my “too old for this shit” clause and started bunking with the grad student in charge in a tiny room off to the side. There comes a point where age has to be worth something! LOL! Never did like that lots of people in one room thing.

Yes! Bunking with the Grad Student in Charge has been so, so much more peaceful. Plus, at the end of the night last night, we drank scotch together out of a nalgene. So yeah, I feel a little like death today, but it was TOTALLY worth it.

I'll try and get some pictures up in the next couple of days.

Hey you. Re your lj question... Are you posting in rich text tab or html tab when you post your chapters? I just had a squizz at your chapter six, which is fairly heavy on the italics, and APPARENTLY that takes up lots of SPACE in lj-land, unless you code yourself and post in html. I can generally get about 9-10K words in an entry if I code myself.

If you go here, you can see how: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=72&view=full

or alternatively, message me on my profile page and I'll send you an example of a short coded oneshot.

Or option the last: Roll your eyes because you is already KNOWING all of this and suggest I get bent.

This. I don't write in any sort of word processing application now, (just in Notepad), I use the HTML tab when I post, and do the italics myself (and other coding, if it's needed). I know if you do it that sort of barebones way instead of copying and pasting from Word, you can fit a lot more words in there. Of course, none of my stories ever even flirt with the word limit, so I have no practical experience with it.

So, yes, there is a limit, but you may be able to fit more than you previously thought.

Excellent...Although I may need to learn to code html, the very basics. That should be interesting....

Thank you for the help!

I am definitely posting in rich text and I DEFINITELY hit the italics pretty hard in that entry. Egads.

Oh, and I totally just messaged you. Thank you so much!

I never thought I would get to see it. We were all sort of semi-passed out and then the 'surfer dude' of our bunch came in and goes: "Hey, um, I know you guys are sleeping or whatever but you can totally see the Northern Lights."

I have never dragged my sorry ass out of bed so fast in my life.

I can't believe you swam in the Arctic! You're very brave. I don't know if I could do it. Way beyond my tolerance for cold, I think.

But I would love to see the Aurora Borealis. It's awesome that you actually got to see it in person. I can't even imagine what it would have been like, but it seems like it definitely beats seeing it in pictures.

Thanks for updating us on your experience in Greenland! It's been fun learning about it and all the other places you visited, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your stories. They served as much-needed distractions from the summer heat here in the Midwest, and this most recent post gave me a break from all the reading I have to do before class on Tuesday. I've really enjoyed reading your descriptions of the people and the different cultures and the amazing sights. It seems like you had a wonderful time, especially in Greenland. Oh, and since you'll be returning in a couple days, I wish you a safe trip home!

I'm glad you liked reading about my semi-interesting summer. It was strange, often awkward, and sometimes uncomfortable. But it was almost never boring.

I cannot WAIT to go home this afternoon! Take me away, SAS!
