This sounds like I'm offended by the question--but the truth is, I'm a practicing Jew, and I love hearing about people's beliefs, whether they agree with mine or not--just endlessly fascinated by faith, the role it plays in people's lives, the varieties of practice--to a voyeuristic degree, probably...
My family on my dads side has always been Quaker. I love the basic morals of the Society of Friends. I love the idea that there is a divine spark of good in everyone that should be cherished. I like the idea of peace even when violence is easier. I love that this is a religion that said no to slavery and had women leading the church in the 1700s. I love that we established fair prices for everyone instead of bartering. (which is why so many companies use Quakers as a marketing ploy. Quaker oats, Quaker state, etc. They aren't run by Quakers, they're just banking on Quakers reputation for being fair and trust-worthy.)
I don't think Jesus was divine. I don't think there is a white guy up in heaven judging us. I think the bible is written by men and not prophets. I like to think there is a divine force but the details are fuzzy. Mostly I just think people should be decent to each other because that's the right thing to do, not out of a fear of divine punishment.
