I got in at 10 pm Pacific or 2 am Haitian time. I would have posted then, but I had a migraine so bad I thought my head was, literally, going to explode. It's a little better, but I now have a shiny new prescription for Midrin. Yays! So I thought I'd write this up before I got a little, you know, loopy ( Read more... )

Thanks! Although...I totally cheated and never even had to get ON the tiny plane. One of the participants had some weird pneumothorax (?) thing and wasn't supposed to travel in small planes. So I got to drive over the entire island! Which was AWESOME.

I just wanted to say how in awe I am that you went and actually made a difference. Just wow. You really are an inspiration...

Thanks. Honestly, I didn't feel very inspiration-y while I was there. I felt more..."Holy shit, what could I possibly contribute?" I know I did some concrete, helping things, but that country is in real trouble. And Port au Prince is...I don't even know.

You DID make a difference though - both concrete and as an inspiration to others. I know what you mean about Haiti though - it was in trouble before the earthquake and has been for a long time. My hope is that if any good comes out of this, it will be that it has focused world attention on how badly off Haiti is...

hey - did you rub elbows with Sean Penn while you were there? Seriously, that is so very awesome of you. you rock. unfortunately, while you were away the US did not solve its addiction to materialism and greed.

Ha! No, I did not see Sean Penn. And more's the pity. That would have made a great picture. I worked hard and I did what I could, but I cannot wrap my brain around the ration of our contributions to total problems.

Aw, damn. And I gave y'all a whole week.

aw, Sean Penn, yummy-yum-yum. Can you give us another week - maybe we can straighten out the greed-thing by then?
