Okay. I'm just gonna say it.

I didn't give a damn when That Iconic Pop Star died earlier this summer. But I'm taking DJ AM's death kinda hard, in a lame fannish way. The guy was a recovering addict, sober for years. And then he relapsed. Sure, the plane crash, the pain meds, and the anti-anxiety stuff were contributing factors. But, to paraphrase Leo, dude was an addict. He didn't need a reason to use. I don't know what's sadder, the possibility that he didn't know the combination of drugs he was on was lethal or that he did.

Adam Goldstein was a wicked DJ. And 'Fix Your Face' is one of my top five albums ever (yeah, I call it an album). DJ AM would spin, like a mash-up, only live, and his friend Travis Barker would play the drums. It had an awesome chemistry to it, the back and forth and the spontaneous element to it. They played off of each together and I loved it--ironic, because I find jazz really obnoxious. You could tell they were not only really good, they were having fun.
