  • Finlay likes eating snow, apparently. It is about the most excited I have seen him be about anything outside since that squirrel he chased in St James' Park. (Well. I say 'excited'. What I really mean is 'focussed'. He's not what you'd call an excitable dog, in general.) Unfortunately he seems to have some belief that snow is a sensible ( Read more... )

Did you get poor old Johnny Ball exhibiting his confusion?

Yargh. Happily not on the subject of climate change (which he made one tiny reference to & then stayed off altogether), but he was a bit weird. Lots of crap music-hall type slightly risque jokes, then a couple of minutes of science that was the stuff I loved seeing him talk about when I was a kid, & which he is still good at. Then another couple of crap music-hall jokes. Dude, stick with the being-excited-about-science!

Brian Cox was awesome (well: he had pictures of the Hubble Deep Field & also the LHC, so I was always going to be impressed). Ben Goldacre & Simon Singh also both good, as was Robin Ince compering.

Which night did you go? Me and Jo went on the Sunday and Johnny Ball fell pretty flat there (not sure about his points about Newton either), everything else was brilliant though.

MVE in Greenwich seem to take most stuff, they just won't give you loads for it.

Aha, that is useful to know! I just CBA taking a big stack of CDs somewhere if I then have to take most of them home again, basically; happy to just get a small quantity of cash. (As a rule I'd just use Freecycle & sod the cash altogether, but, hm. We'll see.)

Glad to hear you're feeling better! Was a bit worried by your absence from Twitter after what sounded rather nasty...
