Why I'm Pro-Choice.

Amen, sister.

My $0.02:
Pro-choicers don't want to abort all babies. We just want the right to choose what is best for us. That very well may be to carry a pregnancy to term. That's why we're "pro-choice" as opposed to "anti-life."

Not wanting to start a debate, but here is my 2 cents... okp January 22 2007, 21:10:36 UTC
I'm pro-life, because I feel the rights of the unborn child are equally as important as the rights of the parent - if not more so, since the child can't speak for him/herself.

My biggest issue with abortion (beyond my belief that it is taking a life) is that the overwhelming majority of abortions could be avoided if people would just be responsible - either using birth control or abstaining from sex if they don't want a kid... That's where the choice is made, to me. I just don't feel like people these days want to be responsible for the choices they make, so they use abortion as a second chance birth control.

It's totally cool, Melanie! I want to hear other opinions! :) I'm not trying to convince anyone or change minds. I'm just putting something out there that is a part of me. :)

I too have a major issue with irresponsibility. Sexual irresponsibility is one of the most infuriating things for me! I believe the choice to use birth control is definitely a choice that happens before intercourse. It's a seriously important choice that I wish more people took more seriously! But, for me, I don't feel comfortable taking away another person's right to choose because I believe they were irresponsible. ::shrug::

Honestly, I just think it's great that most people (mainly my friends) can discuss the issue with one another, not agree, and still respect each other and our opinions. :)

Yeah, I've never thought less of or differently about anyone because their beliefs differ from my own.

I couldn't get through that, because the repeating "I'm pro-choice because" got on my last nerve...lol. You can write a good blog or article without getting all militant and driving the same point across at the beginning of every sentence. I doubt many people will forget what they're reading about.

Sorry. I'm kind of tired and punchy today. But I agree with the one point that once you start restricting a woman's ability to terminate a pregnancy, that'll open the door to restricting other women's ability to even try to become pregnant in the first place. They'll find a way to do it. Our government is kind of fucked.

Dude, it's cool. The repetition was kinda' frustrating. I did think she made some good points. Especially the one you referenced. Our government is kind of fucked. I hope we can make it throught the next couple of years.

I hope we can make it further than just the next couple of years. Bush isn't the main problem, unfortunately (I say that because, if it was just him, the new election would totally solve all of our problems). The country and it's ideals are changing, and people aren't taking enough responsibility for their own lives...they're just handing their freedom over to the government, and it's becoming more powerful and taking more rights away. It's really scary.

And that's about all I'm going to say about that. I don't have the brainpower right now (again, tired) to back up any more arguments that might stem from this conversation...lol.

Sounds like you're totally pro-choice to me! :)

Dude, I believe that too. I just would never legislate it! LOL!

::hugs::
