Dude!!!

Last night I took all 4 amateur radio exams (three levels of theory test plus morse code). It took two hours but I passed them all. As soon as the FCC gets ahold of the records, I have an extra class license! The hams giving the test thought it was great. They said they'd been doing the testing for 13 years and they could only remember one other ( Read more... )

Sadly, the license I have is one you would never want, and really, I don't want it either: Driver.

I get to transmit on all of the amateur radio frequency bands wherever the amateur radio service is regulated by the FCC! Wooooo! I think I'll start with QRP CW DX on 40 meters.

(... ahem ... I mean, low-power morse-code long distance communications on the ~7 MHz band which has a ~40 meter wavelength.)

Gear can get expensive though. I'm going to scrounge used stuff and also build from kits ... I have my eye on this one from Ten-Tec. I would like to be bad ass enough to just kludge together a rig from scraps, but I am nowhere near that level of 1337ness ( ... )
