I think my mistake is setting exceptionally high targets for myself. They indeed overwhelm and demotivate from even starting the writing. Frederic, a fellow research student from Hamburg, Germany, suggested setting them low so that one can have a sense of accomplishment and feel good about achieving something and making progress. Setting a big goal and paving the road with milestone goals sounds good to me.

It does to me, too. I finally realised that thinking too much about those big goals and reminding myself of them all the time just creates an extra pressure and anxiety. So now the tactic is to do little by little :)
