You have to be open to it... and try it. I had an incredibly similar situation with a guy who was completely not my *type* - he took care of me when I was wasted beyond functioning, didn't take advantage of me, the whole same deal. And he was nine years older than me. Because he was such a sweetheart, I gave him a chance. Now 2 1/2 years later... I've never been more grateful for any decision in my entire life. He is the best thing to ever happen to me and I love him with all my heart.

Not saying the exact same thing will happen to you, but would you be willing to pass that up?

Hope you're doing okay. I haven't talked to you in ages and really miss you. Glad to hear you never gave up on good ole Beantown. : )
