I'd talk about the Golden Globes, but I'm late.

Fandom education 101: THIS. So much. (via Tissa)

[While I don't agree with the few comments that went to the "oh, I do this, this and this to people I fangirl about, but that's OK because I'm sane" direction - when really, crazy is crazy, what varies is intensity, - I think cleolinda writes a compelling argument that should be spread all over the internet ( Read more... )

marines make do, internet ahoy!, maldini issues, hi it's hot, tv: generation kill, ficcity fic, fangirliness

Thanks for linking to that post! It was really interesting. I only heard about that whole ordeal through ONTD, and almost all the comments were of the "Wooooow, that girl is batshit cray-cray!" nature, so it's nice to see a more thought-out discussion about it. I don't read cleolinda's journal regularly, but I've definitely been led to her journal a few times, and she always seems to have interesting things to say. Gosh, those girls, I just...it makes me really uncomfortable, and I really hope their parents found out about it, because what they did - especially the rape/police thing - is just so, so far from okay.

I don't read cleolinda either (her post was linked at twitter by dtissagirl) but I couldn't agree more with her, and with 99% of the comments that are pretty level-headed and reasonable. I'm just really glad that there are still sane people in fandom, people that know that this kind of shit is not okay and that these girls really should stop now.

We all play and joke in the internet, and the internet is great exactly because it allows us to do that, but there must be a line that cannot be crossed. Stalkery is not cute, is not funny, is not a joke. These girls (and any other boy or girl that behaves like that) should back the fuck off.

ETA: and I really hope their parents found out about it

The really sad thing about this is that it seems that the girl's mother drove her to whatshisname's house. That an adult would allow her daughter to behave like this is almost as bad - if not worse - than the stalkery behaviour itself.

I think the internet would break if the balance between the sane and crazy fans were ever upset. What's really crazy is that she bought the guy's address of the internet. WHAT? People sell addresses? That's ridiculous. It's one thing for people in LA to sell "star maps" of celebrity's homes (which all seem to surrounded by huge bushes and have security systems) - which in itself is bordering on a very fine line, even if it's touristy and considered somewhat acceptable (I guess?) - but it's another to buy someone's address off the internet and actually go up to that person's house and take pictures of his dogs. "LOLZ HE HAD A BONER IT WAS FUNNY TEEHEE!" I realized when reading cleolinda's post that the girl's mom was the one who drove her! I think I skipped over that part when I first read it or just forgot. Part of me hopes she just thought her daughter just wanted to drive by the guy's house (which, still weird and stalkery, but to a much, much lesser degree than what she actually did), but I doubt it.

Yay for Maldini III! Hope you get him back all ready for you soon.

You WILL be inspired with Photoshop when you get him back.

Did you ever watch Band of Brothers from your list? Zach was watching his dvd set today.

I hope I will be inspired. The truth is, I miss the possibility of having it installed, but when I do get to open it, nothing comes up. It's all so very sad.

Did you ever watch Band of Brothers from your list?

I did not! I had plans to, but I got stuck with Generation Kill. But I *will* watch it. Everybody says it's amazing.
