A quick reaction, after some time to digest, on McCain's choice of VP of Sarah Palin. I'm going to give credit where credit is due- McCain really shook up the political world with this choice and I think it's great that the Republican party is finally nominating a woman for this office. polar bears

I work for a conservation group*, and the sheer volume of data about how screwed the polar bears are with the melting ice and stuff is just enough to break your heart.

* in Canada where we know polar bears

The fact that they are finding drowned polar bears makes my heart break. What makes me furious is that Republicans in the USA seem to be doubly cursed- first they (well, most of them) don't believe in global warming (and thus causing the problem) and second, the bears live in an area with *possible* oil reserves, so hey! they're suddenly not worth protecting. They'll probably *like* the warmth from the oil pipeline anyway...
