paperrflowers The followings steps are the basics that I lately have done with all my icons.
1.) curves layer

1st point at 76 | 168
2nd point at 138 | 206
2.) brightness/contrast layer
-4 | -13
3.) hue/saturation layer
standard: 0 | 10 | 0
reds: 0 | 5 | 0
greens: 0 | 5 | 0
cyans: 0 | 5 | 0
blues: 0 | 10 | 0
magentas: 0 | 7 | 0
4.) overlay layer with #cbb99d at 50% | 50%
5.) soft light layer with #8cccca at 100% | 100%
6.) soft light layer with #f39d76 at 50% | 100%
7.) selective colour layer
reds: -60 | 100 | -45 | 100
yellows: 62 | 12 | 50 | -10
greens: -46 | 15 | -16 | 100
cyans: -27 | 100 | -93 | 40
blues: 100 | 0 | 0 | 100
magentas: -100 | 100 | 30 | 18
whites: 24 | 33 | 32 | 25
neutrals: 14 | 12 | 12 | 3
blacks: 100 | 44 | -11 | 14
8.) darken layer with #c8a46d at 50% | 80%
9.) duplicate background layer, drag it to the top
10.) variations on the duplicated layer
middletones: more yellow, more blue, lighter
darktones: more magenta
11.) set it to overlay at 100% | 100%
12.) soft light layer with #8dcff3 at 80% | 70%
13.) brightness/contrast layer
-12 | 10
This are the 13 basic steps!
But clearly now the icon doesn’t look like the requested one.
let’s play around with variations. (variations are a pretty cool thing!!) the variations depend on your original picture. The ones I used worked with mine but to get an awesome icon you may wanna change the variations.
14.) select/chose your background layer.
15.) go to variations.
Middletones: more yellow
Darktones: darker
Saturation: more saturation
16.) flatten, sharpen etc.
And voilá the icon is ready.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Oh and If you are thinking about asking me to upload the psd.file. I don’t really wanna do that. A tut is there to teach you something ;)
there is still one little thing;
I'd like to see some results :)
