San Francisco

We are planning a trip to San Francisco to visit our daughter who we haven't seen in a year. I am terrified and thrilled at the same time. We are campers and drive to places but this time we will fly and stay in a hotel. What a time to decide to fly for the first time in over 30 years. Will there be snakes on the plane or liquid explosives? ( Read more... )

Encouraging Words (I hope) artisticalias August 19 2006, 05:23:20 UTC
The seat belt will fit. Trust me.
You won't have snakes OR liquid explosives. I'd be more concerned about "will I get to carry on a book at least?"
Your luggage I make no promises about - but no sense worrying about that. Essentials like clothes and toiletry items can be found anywhere, even in San Francisco. :o)
The pooches will be fine in the kennel (of course they'll be confused but remember; their attention spans are shortish). Just make sure the kennel has a way to contact you or your vet just in case. Also, call them as often as you want to check on them - the kennel staff won't mind reassuring you they are well and happy. Think how ecstatic they'll be to see you when you get back. Just remember them a SF treat!
Did I help? (((((judyp)))))

and yes they were encouraging. The hardest part is thinking of putting the dogs in a kennel. Knowing that you are a fellow dog lover makes your commonsense approach most reassuring.
I am so in the dog mode right now as I am reading the Dog Whisperer. Have you read it or seen him on tv? He really is something. Going through the book quickly I couldn't find anything about kenneling so your words are the first good ones I've heard.

Very Welcome! artisticalias August 19 2006, 23:57:11 UTC
I never seem to catch The Dog Whisperer on tv and I haven't read the book. I do know of his work, though, and it's very impressive. Wish I could get Lyla to listen better - but she's still a pup and at least she's learning. She also starts obedience school on September 13th. Can't wait!
I've never used a kennel (I never go anywhere), but know a lot of people who have. I'm sure it will be very hard on you to leave them. :o( But think how wonderful it will be to see your daughter after all this time!
When do you go?

If we can get all our reservations in order we will go September 23 until 30th. Sunday and Monday are her days off and the 28th is her birthday. Only a week of course because of the dogs and of course the expense of hotel and rental car. I can honestly say I never go anywhere either or at least I haven't for a long time because of the pets. I have a ferret too and hope I can pawn her off on someone. I am worried about leaving them at the kennel because they are 7 and 8 years old and both have some very strange quirks. Plus being totally spoiled by me. I have a place in mind that we used many years ago and they were great but that was for a much different dog and circumstances. He loved going there.
