Healthy Hot Drinks - Help Me Find One?

Okay, a query for my LJ collective mind (paralleled from FB): I'm cold, and want a hot drink. I've been drinking cider, but that's too sugary for multiple cups. My diabetes has not gone away, and I must not pander to my sweet tooth, lest I unleash another set of unhappy health problems.

My usual hot drink is tea, but I'm to avoid tea (antioxidants ( Read more... )

My default hot drink is just hot water. Some people add a slice of lemon but I prefer it plain

I can only have Splenda type sugar free. Asperatame is the migraine enemy, so I'll have to look and see whether there are any. I haven't had the stamina to shop myself, so I'll ask my Darling Husband if he has time to check packages.

I do have a rice neck brace I could nuke and cuddle with! And that's a relief, because I cannot find my hot water bottle.

You could try hot broth. Probably want to make sure it's low sodium and dilute it with water.

Hot milk with a little vanilla extract in it is very good, even without any other sweetener -- if you like it sweeter, splenda is well-suited.

Almost all the other non-caffeinated drinks I can think of are anti-oxidants, I'm afraid. :( Aside from hot lemon, which you've said below is no good.

Warm milk is something I've always read about in storybooks, and never tried. Perhaps I shall. The vanilla sounds like a nice addition.

A number of years ago I had an awful cold and no voice to speak of. The owner of the Little Greek Diner that my mother and her lady friend hung out at brought me a cup of hot water and a quarter of a lemon. He had me squeeze the lemon into the water drop it in and drink it.
It brought my voice back. It also was quite pleasant to drink.
Ity isn't just the lemon juice, it's also the oil from the peel. I take my tea without sweetener, so I didn't sweeten this, but I suppose you could.

Good luck.
