Also there are tabs at the top of the box where you type in the post. You want the "HTML" tab before you type the code in.
Even if you haven't decided what you want in the "read more" and "text you want to cut" places, put some placeholder text in there and you'll be able to see it and select it to replace it, when you switch back to the rich text tab.
Hrm. Are you using the web interface to post to LJ? If so, you may want to consider one of the LJ Client products. I have Semagic on my desktop, for the rare times these days that I get around to posting. Instead of, y'know, reading what everyone else posts :)
And how are you entering the cut-tag? I don't know much HTML, but there are a couple of codes I remember. If all else fails, you _should_ be able to manually type in the cut-tag where you want it, even if you are using the web interface. The HTML for the cut is [lj-cut text="type what you want it to say here"] and to end the cut is [/lj-cut] (replace the square brackets with angle brackets < and > )
She's using the "rich text" editor -- that's the one that's badly broken. A client would be good; they're available for every OS. (I almost said "every OS under the sun", but nobody uses Solaris anymore, let along SunOS.)

The bats sound cool, and how amusing that they showed up right as you summoned air support!
And I hope everybody's classes go well.

That is awesome. Kids telling time with out watches or cellphones. I love it.
I'm also impressed that you have trained bats. Way cool. (G)
