A possible reason for the "too loose" chain is when the gears at each end have come closer together, despite appearing like they're fixed at their axes; some bikes of mine in the past have had "adjustability" there.

Hmm. A good thing to check. Since this is a one-gear, pedal backwards to brake bike, that sounds like a way for someone to get the chain on and adjust back tightness. Thanks for the tip!

Check the bolts holding the rear axle. It slides into a slot -- that's what you use to adjust the chain tension.

With the bike on its back, loosen both bolts, just a little, then push back on the rear wheel until the chain is the way you want it. Tighten the bolts, making sure that the wheel stays centered.

Hmm. It's been a while since I had a bike, but IIRC, when the chain does that, the most likely thing is that the back wheel has shifted slightly. If that's the case, it's a fairly simple fix.

If the leak on the rear tire of your car is slow, you may be able to have it repaired at a tire shop or service station for $15 or less.
